I am about to put my '70 Mach 1 428CJ up for sale and could use a little advice:

Outside of this great website's For Sale section, what do you consider the best online place(s) to sell a concours-level restored Mustang? If you've sold yours, what worked well for you, and why?

Don't discount e-bay. From the dark nooks and damp crannies, e-bay detractors will emerge. If you have a history of selling, you know the in's and out's, it can be done successfully. I would recommend that if you do choose e-bay to sell your car in the US of A only, accept bids from those that have a history of more than 20 or 25, and don't be surprised when your reserve is not met.

Thanks Jim -  I'd like to try online advertising first, and would consider eBay only after that. Yes, would only offer the car there to qualified USA bidders. A lot of work has gone into this car so no plans to have it stolen out from under me.

The only thing I would caution about listing on ebay in auction format is that if the bidding does not go well, it can put a bit of a stigma on the car.  I would suggest a fixed price format with the option for buyers to submit a best offer.  This way, you get to set your price, but buyers can still show interest.  You also get a far reach on advertising.  The trick to this is to not overprice the car, but with true concours cars, there aren't many that come up for sale and some may not realize the price they can demand.

@caspian65 - good points about eBay, and more reasons it won't be a first choice. Thanks for the well-wishes on the sale of the car.

Had a good experience selling a 1965 dealer option GT convertible concours driven car to KARmustang out of Ohio.  The owner George came and picked up the car.

While I know the classifieds in 428 Cobra Jet Registry is closed to non members it is a good place to at least post it. We certainly follow the cars and run in the circles of the people you want to be aware your car is available.

Agree Carsonline is a very good venue not often mentioned and Hemmings
Hard to beat the free world wide exposure of an Ebay ad with your direct phone number.
