Anyone tried soda blasting?  I had a fan clutch soda blasted and it turned out pretty nice.

After 3 more hours of scrubbing and rubbing it's looking pretty decent.  The best part is that I found some stuff at Wal Mart called "NevR Dull."  Apparently this stuff has been around forever.  It cuts through the tarnish and dirt on the aluminum relatively quickly when you use some #0000 steel wool with it.  An added bonus is that there are no fumes or acid that might kill you . Now I just need to get all the bolts, brackets and other attachments done.

Have any pictures yet of the finished product?  I just started calling around to get prices on having mine rebuilt.  I want them to clean it at the same time.  Did you decide to put anything on the metal after you got it all clean to preserve the finish?

Believe it or not, we used that stuff to shine up our Tactical Neuclear Weapons (Bombs) when I was in the Air Force in the early '80's.  They were stainless.

This is what I ended up with.  Engine and trans went back in the car 2 weeks ago for the first time since 1979!
