Forty-Seven Years Ago Today
« on: June 03, 2015, 03:48:10 PM »
My 1968 coupe, Murphy, rolled off the line at the Dearborn Assembly Plant.  I took ownership three days later at Spitler-Demmer Ford in Wayne, Michigan.  Happy Birthday, Murphy!

Congratulations Laurie, on managing to hold on to Murphy for all these years. Bet Ol' Murphy could tell a lot of stories. And, I'm sure there have been a lot of changes in your life since you made that initial purchase.

I grew up with the car.  :)  My father bought it for me about five months before my 16th birthday.  Even took my road test for my driver's license in Murphy on my 16th birthday.  I can't imagine being without that car.

Congrats on such a long, and faithful ownership of such a great friend.  We did miss Murphy at the Pyramid MCA Regional in ABQ last month, hope to see him again soon.

Murphy is Conservator #22 and we're on the second round for a trophy.  I brought the car up gradually from daily driver (until 1985) to occasional driven, concours driven, and finally concours trailered.  Because there were no Nationals out west when I was first showing at that level, I was forced to go to concours trailered.  The exterior was repainted in 1983, and the rest has been restored bit by bit.  The last major work was about 2001.  Now, I just maintain what is there, but even though it's in the Conservator class, I clean, detail, and prep just as much as when it was in concours trailered.

I hated missing the Albuquerque show, but I'm headed up to the show in Loveland next month.  I'm still trying to get my trailer dolly repaired so I can get my car trailer out from next to the house.  What a nightmare!
