'66 convertible dual exhaust system vs. coupe/fastback
« on: July 11, 2015, 10:47:42 PM »
Was the original '66 dual exhaust system different for a convertible vs. coupe/fastback due to the frame stiffener plate?  I see some vendors advertise that their stock style system needs to be modified to fit a convertible.  I would  think if it was different (tighter to the body) for a convertible, they would just sell that system, knowing it would fit all three body styles.

It was the same on all body styles for Ford made/spec systems . Most repro systems are not made to very strict tolerances and it is not unusual to have to modify for best fit.

I guess they are just "covering" themselves for those tolerances by saying it may not fit the convertible without modification

I'm not trying to promote anyone, but I bought a factory style dual exhaust, for my 66 convertible, from Virginia Classic Mustang, and it fit
perfectly. No modifications were needed.

+ 1 The only difference would be wether the car was a GT with dual exhaust verses a non GT dual exhaust car. The GT used trumpets at the end and non GT'S used exhaust tip turn downs.

Boy I sure don't, but I was so impressed with the fit I called VCM to tell them and they said they would pass it on to the manufacturer.
I'm guessing you could call VCM and they wiill tell you.

From memory I used a Scott Drake standard dual exhaust kit for mine 66 GT convert without too many issues.

Washing, polishing and cleaning stuff some more in an attempt to retain that 'Golden nugget'
