1969 shelby trunk light wiring
« on: August 31, 2014, 07:46:32 PM »
i understand the wiring would have received body color overspray when lid was painted.  would this include the black ground wire used on the sportroof or was the ground wire installed later ( no overspray) and how many clips were used to hold it to lid and body of car  how much paint would be seen ?-  my wiring definitely has grabber blue paint on it but a repaint in mid 80's can make this tough to determine plus the ground wire was wrapped in a wack of blk electrical tape - any pics would be a blessing!     70 gt500 sportsroof   june/69  thanks   david

Bases on this picture of a trunk lid being made/assembled at AO Smith the second (ground wire) was in place along with the hot wire for the light, when the trunk lid was painted the exterior color

Looked and could not find a picture from an original car showing the paint on that specific wire to share but the original picture sure seems to suggest the pattern would be similar between the two wires.

What the picture shows it the two ends of both wires where they will exit the trunk lid to be attached later to the car's wiring loom being held in place to the bottom of the inner liner of the 69 Shelby fastback trunk lid, as that section is being lowered onto the outer skin

Hope this helps

too bad you can't ask the lady to move her hand to reveal top part-  my wiring certainly had blue paint on it but it could have been from previous paint ( around 1986)  so i'll go ahead and lay some on both wires-  thanks jeff

Just in case the light receptacle was messed with in previous repaints. The hole with the recessed bulb was covered with a small section of masking tape before being painted. Typically the crew and the ground wire terminal were painted in this process. When the AO Smith worker peeled off the tape it left a witness line . Sometimes you can make out a very jagged line of a torn piece of tape used other times not.

is there any blk tape holding wires to trunk hinge so it doesn't dangle?

No black tape was typically used. There is a metal clip that held the wire like on a regular Mustang.

Many times seen on the trunk hinge inner structure. This is most likely covered in the 1969 Mustang electrical assembly line manual that you should have along with the other companion assemblyline versions.
