Sound Deadoner and Seam Sealer
« on: May 11, 2015, 02:08:25 PM »
Is the sound deadener and seam sealer painted body color in the trunk of a 1969 Shelby?  The side quarters and the joint sealer for the fuel tank corners and wheel housing bracket as is demoed in the libraray?

Thank you!

All the sound deadener and seams sealers in the trunk of a 69 Dearborn built Mustang (including Shelbys) were applied before the exterior body color was applied so yes. Since the product remained somewhat flexible (being bumped, rubbed and so on) and bleed through the body color it can, after all these years, appear to have been added later

Thanks Jeff. Sorry for posting in the wrong area...  By the way, I noticed in my particular car that there was no red oxide under the white paint in the trunk. Is that normal??

No problem - if the subject covers all years and plants we tend to move/leave them in the general areas of the site - if the details are specific or different based on year, model and or plant they get moved to specific areas so as not to confuse others with different cars.

In any case we don't often get to strip the paint to look under but there are enough cars to support that they painters didn't get every nook and corner in the trunk with either the primer  (plenty of upper panels became rusty) or in some cases body color.  Though not typical or the plan I've seen original paint cars were only - maybe - 70% of the visible surfaces (standing at the trunk opening and just looking in) were covered with body color. But again - not the nor IMHO

Good luck with the project
