1966 Convertible seat belts
« on: May 11, 2014, 05:21:09 PM »
Please correct me if I am wrong but this is my understanding of seat belts on a 1966 convertible built at Dearborn, December 1965:
Standard belts: clamshell design front and rear. Male end has a bevel at each corner. 11" sheath for front outer belts.
Deluxe belts: pushbutton design front and rear. Male end is rounded. 11" sheath for front outer belts. (No retractor like the coupe and fastback.) No rear retractors. Warning light on I/P to the left of the steering column wired to the ignition; stays on for 10 seconds after ignition is turned on.

The 1966 deluxe belts that I've seen have the seat belt warning light to the right of the steering column as you're sitting in the drivers seat of the car.

My November 65 Dearborn car has the light to the right of the column. Let me know if you need pics for location and I'll take some. As for the belts, mine are consistent with your description.

Yes, please post a few photos so that I (and anyone else who is interested) can see the location.  Thanks!

That seems to be the correct location.

My November 1965 Dearborn convertible has clamshell, color-coordinated buckles and a Deluxe interior, but no seatbelt light under the dash. Is it a mutt?

My September 1966 San Jose built Mustang GT has the deluxe interior with the interior light and clamshell seat belts.  Maybe Dearborn is different.

Interior picture.  The upholstery was restored.  The seat belts are in their original worn condition.

De luxe seat belts were not connected to the de luxe interior, they were priced as a separate RPO together with front seat retractors and the warning ligth at $14.53.

As an example, my late November -65 Metuchen Fastback has the blue and white de luxe interior and the standard blue "clam shell" belts with NO warning light or retractors.

Yes, That is the correct location of the Seat Belt Warning light. Good pic.  Likewise, The "Brake" Emergency Brake warning light is located in the same area on the opposite Left side of the dash.. In between the two switch "pods" and located underneath.
