Coil Spring Cover Bolts - 69 San Jose
« on: April 05, 2015, 12:33:54 AM »
The PO was meticulous in labeling everything when he took the car apart.  One jar had 12 bolts like this labeled shock tower/spring cover bolts.  I have never seen this type bolt used before. Always been fender type.  Any ideas?  69 MACH S code San Jose car.

First, I'd like to say Welcome!

2nd, you might also add more build date data as well if you know the ACTUAL build date. (Marti Report confirmed)

3rd, I will say I am no 69 San Jose expert, but I cannot recall seeing those style bolts used for that application before either. Others will soon be able to offer more help than I can. You are in the correct forum to find out such details, THAT I can attest to.

They look like s code valve cover bolts. Picture is too fuzzy but looks like a B+H . Yes coil cover would typically have a version of a wide washer bolt like fenders.

These are the originals on my 3/69 built SJ car;

(I don't see this head marking in the AMK catalog but it is illustrated in the VA Classic Mustang catalog, FYI)

For reference - documented as 57039-S2 5/16-18X3/4 hex, 3/4 disc lead point (aka dog point) although the lead point is not measured.
I think Bob Gaines is correct, a common valve cover bolt in the first picture, 1/4-20 373071-S7 1/4-20X5/8 hex, 5/8 split washer (also -S2).
