Topic: 1970 shelby gas cap

what's the best replacement  gas cap for a non vented 70 california shelby-  i see a motorcraft  FC-535 cap advertised for a california 70 cougars

If you can't find an original then you need to choose which detail (s) your willing to give up or what option is closer to looking correct

1- You can go the Motorcraft route - It may have the Motorcraft stamped on the face which you don't want and may not have the Stant logo on the rivet

2- You can go with the Stant cap which should not have the Motorcraft stamping or the Autolite   but may have the Stant logo (the big S)

Sorry don't have either of these two here in front of me for a picture - just the process I would consider. I would opt for the Stant one for my car given only these two choices

Have no idea.  Might have been the same as the picture above

Not sure if there were multiple suppliers for the vented caps or the recall non-vented caps

  hey jeff-  i was able to find an autolite cap just like your top picture  with the "S"  pressure and vacuum stamping -  now a question-  would cap and filler pipe get blacked out too- or did someone blackout the area on your most recent  two pictures posted

not black painted gas caps  & on your 70 the cap makes a difference if gt350 or gt500 with the vented tank recall done.

Should have placed a caption on that one - apparently someone had been "freshing up" their unrestored car a little in that picture

rattle cans in the wrong hands can be disastrous-  - to the common car show looker an unrestored car is just one that "Needs" help.  to the  real car guy an unrestored car is like the dead sea scrolls.   nothing like pep boys stuff to "restore" the underhood of a mustang.
