Pitman Arm Interchangeability
« on: March 01, 2015, 02:23:28 PM »
In a recent discussion I was told that a '65 Dearborn, 6 Cylinder Model PS Pitman Arm, C3DA-3590-H, may be replaced with the 8 Cylinder Pitman Arm, C4ZA-3590-A for additional clearance. I was further told that this was a running change made by Ford for the '65 & '66 Model Years.

Has anyone tried this? Is it possible? Is there any need to? Is it just Bologna?

If this is possible, are judging points lost for correctness?

Thanks

Ray

Don't know - and never tried. Of course they would not look the same so no reason for me to have tried.

Don't have a change manual handy for that period to look up to see if the one replaced the other but don't recall that detail

Of course if noticed you should be deducted for the part,  since they don't look the same. Ignoring the part number in most cases

Two different replacement part numbers are shown in Ford Car Parts for I-6 and V-8 applications. They both use the same threaded hardware to attach to the steering box and center link, but no mention of center to center measurements nor associated angles. A running change may be a fantasy of your source.
