Seat backs for 69 standard convertible interior.
« on: February 21, 2015, 04:03:22 PM »
I was prepping my car for a show the other day and noticed that the vinyl upholstery material on the seat backs was beginning to peel at the corners and that the clips were popping loose.  Subsequently I was looking through my vast selection of Mustang catalogs (jk) and saw that there was an ABS seat back for 69 standard interiors.  When I bought my car it had the original interior but the seams were rotting.  I bought a TMI upholstery set and it came with the upholstered back panels for the bucket seats.  I turned the whole thing over to a friend who owns an upholstery shop and he installed the TMI stuff for me.  That, then, is the genesis of the vinyl covered seat backs in my car.  I never noticed whether the ones on the car when I handed it over to the upholsterer were vinyl covered or ABS.  I spoke to TMI and they said that all the sets they sell have the seat backs that are like the door panels.  Hard board covered with upholstery.  They also intimated that it was the way all Mustangs originally came.  I have asked at Vintage Mustang Forum's concours forum and one of the responders, who is an MCA 69-70 judge, has a 69 vert that he's owned since 74.  The car was a June 69 build and has the ABS seat backs.  My car is an October 68 build San Jose car and I wondered if mine, being an early build car, might not have had the ABS backs originally.  He didn't offer an opinion on which style would be correct for my car.  Which style seat back do you believe is correct for my car?  I am willing to either repair the ones that are on the car or replace them with the ABS type based on your advice.  TIA.
I couldn't fix your brakes so I made your horn louder.
