Is there any consensus as to whether sandblasted plain Ford 15" steel wheels need a primer first, or will the spray paint be all that's needed for the best result ?

I'll probably have a ton of people dress me down, but I recently did a set of plain steel 14" for my coupe and didn't prime after I had blasted them. Yes, I had gotten lazy and didn't feel like getting out the gun and mixing up some primer!
Priming certainly doesn't hurt and mine will have hubcaps covering them also.
Here's how they came out (the tires were mounted a few days afterwards):
