I know Eastwood sells it, so does Virginia Classic Mustang. Any opinins as to which is the better one color-wise ? Or is there a better one sold by someone else ?
Is there any consensus as to whether sandblasted plain Ford 15" steel wheels need a primer first, or will the spray paint be all that's needed for the best result ?

I like Brant's.

I'll probably have a ton of people dress me down, but I recently did a set of plain steel 14" for my coupe and didn't prime after I had blasted them. Yes, I had gotten lazy and didn't feel like getting out the gun and mixing up some primer! :-[ Priming certainly doesn't hurt and mine will have hubcaps covering them also.
Here's how they came out (the tires were mounted a few days afterwards):

If I was going to have major hubcap, I'd be very tempted to forgo the primer as well. But since I'm shooting for the look below, albeit without the exact period correct (expensive) wheels, I'd better go buy some primer .

I had very good results with VHT Argent Wheel Paint, their SP188.

I kinda figured that's what you were doing when you stated plain steel 15". That's also why I specified I went without primer on 14" AND with hubcaps. I'd have to agree with you 100% on priming first.

Where they originally sprayed without the use of primer and/or did they receive some kind of electrochemical process prior to paint?
-
That's what I am thinking.. When I sandblasted the last set of standard 14" wheels, I found nothing but the layer of black paint...? :o

direct to metal

I think best is Motorcraft brand. Same as its always been and still available from Ford

I took the Virginia Classic Mustang catalog listing for the MotorCraft spray paint to my local Ford dealer to see if they could order it. After about 15 minutes they gave up, they couldn't find it anywhere on their computers.
Anybody got a current Ford Part number for it ?

What number did you use? The last one I have is D7AZ-19000-A.
