Title: 260 air filter
Post by: Dave Stribling on August 02, 2013, 10:58:02 AM
According to Klaus' early mustang the air filter on the 260s is unique. According to my T&I it should be a FA-32. Am I missing something? - Dave

There shouldn't be any difference in the air filter on a 260/289.  From that time period, it might be the wire mesh style with diamond pattern and maybe black rubber.  There would also be a maroon or reddish orange version with the typical round holes.

I have an original Autolite FA-23 that I am going to put in it, but it probably would have said Fomoco. Oh well, you can't see it anyway.  ;D

I knew the air filter housings where not the same 260 vs 289. I do not know why the filters would be different

There is no difference in the housings either.  This was somehow perpetuated in the hobby for a while, but we learned at least 10, if not 15 years ago that this simply was not true and the MCA rules were changed.

If you ever see one of those big Falcon/Fairlane air cleaners on a Mustang, look at the snorkel and you'll see a rub mark where it makes contact with the bottom of the hood.  Physically incompatible with a Mustang.
