How to ID a correct OE Disc brake master cylinder ? The cylinder bore size for a 65, San Jose, GT car built about mid May 65 ? Thanks, Brian
-
An original 65 master cylinder will have brass adapters with the seats screwed into the outlets. In 66 they changed them and put the seats in the ports.

Thank you for the info on the seats. Appears this master cylinder is a 66 version, has a 15/16" bore and some cast info on the down side. That info is; 2225052 ?R5 and what seems to be a date code 2 8 5. Mean anything ? Brian

I have learned, credit Chockostang, that the 222 identifies a Bendix unit and that the ?R5 is the Bendix logo a winged ' B ' R5. Still don't know what the BR5 means and not sure how to decode the date casting but am going to guess; Month, Day and year. Have a picture, pretty dark, but could this be the original Master Cylinder for my 65 ? Opinions ? Brian

I'd like to re visit this topic ? The master cylinder is off the car and I have some more info. It appears it is the 66 version with seats installed in the ports ? A Bendix unit with a date casting of 2 8 5. Same question OE or not ? Thanksgiving day riddle. Brian
I have been told that Bendix used the Julian Calendar method to date their master cylinders. Makes sense because that is the method used on the K/H proportioning valve. So 285 th day or Oct. 12, 1964 ? Brian

Thank you Autolite for the additional information. My car, May of 65, would be in the later 65 production year. Brian

A date code of Oct 12 1964 would indicate a master cylinder that used the brass adapters . A Oct 12 65 dated master cylinder would have the seats installed in the ports.
