Title: Flashing Lights
Post by: ruppstang on May 24, 2013, 09:13:52 AM
I have a 68 with a 289 that with the lights on will oscillate from dim to bright. I know this is common at idle but does not seem to matter the RPMs. It has a newer reproduction voltage regulator. I have heard that there is a diode in alternator that can cause this. Any one else have this problem?

Get rid of the reproduction voltage regulator and check all your ground connections.  Make sure there are star washers that improve the ground for each wire.  If that doesn't work, then you might need to replace the headlight switch.

In the past, I have found that simply switching to an electronic motorcraft voltage regulator fixed the pulsing issue.
