I'm trying to research a 66 Mustang convertible with what appears to be rare options.it is a 289, 2bbl and a has sport sprint decal on the air cleaner…..it is auto, has factory air, power steering, power brakes (all drum), pony interior, bucket seats with a full console, remote mirrors…….I'm not an expert but have spent allot of time with these cars…..the VIN: 6S08C163598……just wondering about the combination as well as the sport sprint decal on the air cleaner…..it all appears original……not restored……thank you for your assistance,

Welcome,
The only semi-rare option you listed is the power drum brakes. The "Sprint" decal was only on 1966 6 cylinder cars. The "Sport Sprint" decal on a chrome air cleaner lid is only suppose to be on certain 8 cylinder cars in 1967, I think.
Best speculation is some previous owner saw a sport sprint engine in a junk yard and said "hey! That would look good on my car." Is your air cleaner lid chrome?

+1, someone probably put a '67 289 sprint air cleaner on a '66.

Might want to double check that VIN number again ;)

hi, Ok, I'm sure you've figured out I've never used this before....I did find the registration does not match the data plate, on the data plate, it is an F not S.....also will try to get a picture of the engine and air cleaner lid......it is light blue and matches the base.....everything seems to be there and fit, just seems a little odd, someone would make sure everything was connected if they just wanted the 67 air cleaner with that decal....but I do know anything is possible.....

+1000.... You either have the wrong aicleaner with decal and it's a '67, or you have the right aircleaner with the wrong decal... One of the two...
How about a pic?
That would settle the issue!
