Post by: Oz390 on March 30, 2012, 07:46:46 PM
'68 Dearborne coupe.  Looks like a 530 or 930, would rotation number usually be in this location?  Looking from front of car just to right of lower mount of grille suport.

Yes normally drivers side of the front cross member - that year that plant. Most of the time in white though have seen one other color used applies with a permanent crayon. Now you just need to find it on some of the other parts ;)

Thanks.  Unfortunately it looks like after market undercoating was used in a "sprited"manner.   ;)

I did find an "asterisk" on the RH front apron when I removed the fender today, any idea what it indicates?

Usually the right hand apron has a 6 or 8 to indicate the the engine. On Armand's pictures of the 428 GT-CS he is restoring there is a R there. Some times see it on the left side as well. Marty

On NJ cars the 6/8 is on the passenger side of the radiator support

Might be what is left of other scribes/markings. On 68 Dearborn (as mentioned) the wheel side of the passenger side front inner fender (battery box area) a worker applied a 6, 8 (small blocks) an S or R for big blocks. On a rare occasion there was another letter - so far I've only got that extra letter on big blocks - that plant that year.

It also appears that the passenger side of the radiator support some times (not very often) got the "shopping list" as found on early Dearborn car.

As for determining what the number is check everywhere like the back side of the door panels, seats, interior panels since these are less likely disturbed. No guarantees just need to check to see if anything is there ;)

Yes the 8 with a line through it for that year and plant.

If this is your X code (don't have any other Dearborn X codes to compare) that is interesting as I would have expected it to be marked there much like an S code.
