Title: 4 speed cross member bolts
Post by: Yellow r code on April 16, 2025, 12:59:57 PM
I was thinking I would share these 2 pictures with everyone. These bolts are the ones in the cross member that hold the trans to the cross member. I hope this helps other people out. My car is a R code made at the NJ plant built Nov 7 of 69. The red on the bolts.

How long are those bolts? Only asking because in the pictures they don't look very long.

Don't recall seeing those bolts finished in the safety red before. Hopefully we can hear more from those that focus on 70's specifically. I'm looking through my pictures to see if I have some clear pictures from other unrestored 70's  Tough place to get shots of.

The size and thread would help as well. A Ford hardware part number would be even better. The "red" usually signifies a special torque requirement.

Based on the picture of the two short bolts you most likely mean the bolts that holds the transmission mount to the transmission. Lock nuts are what holds the transmission mount to the crossmember.

Never seen red on them bolts wonder if its a locktite thread sealer as there is a red sealer out there on the market.

Head marking and a look from the other end would help solidify which they are also.

The long cross member to body cross member bolts would have a somewhat pointed threaded end with a nut with the intergrated washer style nut.

Bob is correct. These are the bolts that hold the mount to the trans .  I can't get any other pictures. I've already put the trans back in the car. that's why to took the picture of the bolts before I installed them again.

And a close up of one that I found just a couple days ago posted on another site in a somewhat related discussion
