On a 69 428 CJ with a C6, with a cast iron tailshaft, what color is? Doing a project that somebody else 'helped with' just wondering the correct color. I thought natural, he painted the same color as diff.

The cast iron tailashaft is bare unpainted cast iron on the CJ C6 when installed at the factory. If you are not sure of your tailshaft is aluminum or cast iron and don't have the engineering number to authenticate then try using a magnet to see if it sticks to the cast iron.

Tail shaft housing like the case would be bare natural finish for automatic transmission no matter the application, engine or transmission type.

Thanks, that's what I thought. And this was done by an "expert" from the Fairline club

Adding photo here of what I think is the correct look for one of these from a few years ago for a 1969 428 Mach 1. Note that there is two areas where I machined the outside of the tailshaft housing like it was originally. Other photo shows close up.
