Just wonderimg if someone can advise on a firewall pad for a 65 fastback sj build
Are there any vendors that offer accurate reproductions that would pass when judged
I have read that auto custom carpets may have something close anyone have any comments on this

As far as I know, the dimple-style pad, typically seen on San Jose cars, is not reproduced. The other reproductions aren't really a close match either. Your best solution is to find a good original. Keep in mind that there are knock-outs on the pad for certain options, like A/C and manual trans. There is also an early and late firewall pad for '65, which has to do with the relocation of where the A/C lines would come through the firewall, in addition to a couple other minor changes.

Agree with Charles - San Jose firewall pads are different from the other two plants and really different (as far as the visible face) than the reproductions and I know of no way of reproducing (have tried) the pattern onto a reproduction.
Only choice is to take the slight point deduction of find a good used one from a donor car.

Thanks Charles and Jeff,
I have the pad that came out of the car,it is missing a few sections,if I was to post a couple of pics could i get some advice on the best ways to restore it
This excercise if you can lend some help might help others also

Others have had luck restoring original pads, just depends what condition they are in.

Peter, interested to know how you went with your firewall pad.
The post is from 4 years back, if you did take some pics I'd like to see.
Perhaps if others have some tips and tricks used to restore, that would be good to hear also...

You might search the 67-68 section of the forum.

I did a 67 San Jose Pad and Marty did both a 67 SJ and a Dearborn pad with fairly good results. The real difficulty is in locating donor material and trying to pattern-match the dimples on the SJ pads.

Thanks for the link Richard, you and Marty did a great job restoring yours.
The search begins for a Dearborn pad, we have a SJ to restore so I'll use your techniques to help get that back up to scratch.
