Title: Unusual interior trim - Code 79
Post by: CharlesTurner on July 27, 2022, 02:43:51 AM
Not very often one sees a '65 with Palomino interior and cloth seat inserts.... was a car for sale recently.

Any early fastback with cloth inserts is very rare/very unpopular in the era. But think that is the first Palomino one I've seen. Sure buyers were not rushing to buy this option since (on a fastback) the front and rear seats didn't match since the rear seats were vinyl  ::)

Sure would be a pain to find originally looking material for the inserts today

Was going to send you a link to this cloth interior fastback a couple of weeks back. Not sure the last time I saw one of those up for sale

Brother had one back in the early 70s that we built into a Shelby look alike (changed the interior)  Kept one of the seat bases for discussion and sharing at judges seminars for decades. His was black and I would guess that those were the most common, if we could use that term, the one in the example above is in a rarely seen color on top of being cloth in a fastback. That car was stolen and totaled in a chase when the hood popped open and stayed that way which raised the attention of a cop car they passed by  ::)  Thieves didn't put the hood pins back in when they hot wired the car. They did have a stripped unibody waiting for the parts at their home >:(.

I have the 1965 Ford paint/trim selection folder which I'm pretty sure has samples of the cloth inserts.

Think, just me, that being ordered/built in a fastback and the color is what makes the Charles example so special but all cloth cars are. Too bad we don't have the data from 65-66 production

The codes are listed in the soft trim section of the 75 edition of Ford Car Parts (aka MPC) for 65 Mustang (not for 66).

The post was not made to infer that code 79 did not exist.  It was made as this is a rarely seen trim selection for a fastback.

And I confirmed that in fact it was a legitimate interior code as I had not heard of it, and none of the Mustang books I have made no mention of it. I went as far as to provide a source of the two codes.

It should be noted that in many of the earlier MPCs that the two interior codes shown 79 & 76 they are listed incorrectly as all vinyl. Just adds to the confusion for people trying to look at factory documents for related details

The 75 edition, the one in this forums' library, states "vinyl and cloth" as does the 68 edition.
