The signal lights in the deluxe hood looks like what appears to be a retainer clamp on the socket that holds the bulb, there appears to be different styles of these clamps used in different factories, and I wonder if they weren't used at all in others
Also what would be the correct finish of the clamp and sheet metal screw that holds it
The housing that holds the bulb assembly is metal but has a painted finish on it,any one know what that would be

This has been discussed quite a bit over the years. Check out this thread in particular. I did not check to see if it answers your specific question though.

Thanks for the thread, but I was looking for something more specific regarding the actual light housing

Believe that not all got the retainer and I don't recall ever seeing one in person shaped like shown in your upper picture. Do see that the picture was posted in the other thread mentioned
Just clarifying - Your looking for the
- Retainer clamp finish
- Retainer clamp screw finish
- Not sure of the last - is this the bulb holder (it would not be painted) of the housing it gets inserted in?

From what I have seen the clamps were used in Dearborn and Metuchen. San Jose used a strip of Gaffers tape to make the light socket tight. There is a hole for a screw in the housing but no threads in it.
I have only see you second example of the clamp and the Phillips screw.
The finish on the light body is zinc dichromate with the interior painted flat white. The gasket to the lens should be grey. The clamp was bare steel and the screw phosphate and oil.

Thanks for the help,my car was built April 12 in San Jose and there are no thread holes in light housing, so I will use gaffes tape,I am guessing that is the same tape that is on the rear taillight housing
What got me started was I was looking at original pictures posted in this web site and realized I hadn't seen this on my car, just another minute detail that keeps me up at night

I just finished looking at 84 pictures of 1967 Engine Compartments, and 23 of 1968 Engine Compartments. Of those, only 7-67's and 1-68 had pictures that included the lamp housings. Of these 8, one was a 67 Dearborn, 4 were San Jose 67's, one a 67 from unknown plant, one a Metuchen 67, and one a San Jose 68.
Of this small sample, the Dearborn 67, and 3 of the 67's from San Jose had the brackets.
Also of interest is that these brackets do not show up in in either the 1967 or 68 Electrical Assembly Manuals, the 1967 or 1960-68 MPC's, the 1966-1968 TSB Index (I haven't gone through all of the 67=68 TSB's page by page yet), or any of the Special Service Letters that I have (which isn't very many). One would think that an addition like this would show up somewhere. I guess the next thing is to try to find the earliest date that these appear.
Any other ideas ?
Bob

We would want to also want to list not only ones with the clamp as well as with no clamps.
So far we don't know if this is an assembly line or service department details so holding back on labeling this a a running change yet
Have allot to go through but as an initial look, from pictures already in a directory about turn indicator details used for other threads, I can offer the following San Jose examples
