Title: 1968 Correct Power Brake Booster

I am trying to figure out which PB Booster (Midland or Bendix) is correct for my 1968 Power Disc Mustang.  Built at San Jose on 2/8/1968.  The car currently has a Bendix that functions just fine.  However, that probably replaced a booster that replaced a booster etc.  It is my understanding that the the Midland and Bendix boosters are totally interchangeable with no modifications needed for either the firewall or the booster.  True?  I believe that starting in '69, all factory boosters were Bendix no matter power disc or drum and at the same time, all replacements were Bendix.

So, what should my car have?  I have read that it could be either depending on factory and build date.  Is this true and if so, does judging agree?

I have not seen a Bendix booster used on any 68 factory original cars. As far as I know the Midlands and Bendix are identical in fit and function. I am reasonably sure that the Bendix was used as a service replacement.

If you were entered in a MCA concours  division and had a Bendix booster on your 68 you could expect a deduction.

Yes they interchange with each other. Your 68 SJ would typically come with a midland booster. FYI Midland was also used in early 69 production according to vintage photos and verified survivor cars so it is unlikely a 68 would have one from the factory given that the evidence suggests that the changeover happened in early 69 production. .Judging conscience agrees with no bendix on 68's.Of course if someone has reasonable documentation to support a odd part usage  on a 68 then there could be a exception.

Thanks, gentlemen.  I do have a pretty decent (I think) Midland core that I will send off to Booster Steve.

The Bendix and Midland boosters are interchangeable so long as you know that the Midland booster requires the filter / spacer between the master cylinder and the booster. The Bendix does not require the filter / spacer.

I agree the Bendix was not used on the assembly line until well into the 1969 model year.
