Does anyone know is the 68 Metuchen cars with battery heat shields were only grey or grey and black?
-
I believe they were gray and a big block /ac thing

I think they were both gray and black and it was a MFG thing. I am guessing it was a mfg that discontinued making them while the one that made the black continued to supply. You typically see the gray on 67/68 cars but have also seen black in a unmolested context on the same years. . The gray are very rarely seen relatively speaking which makes me think it was a MFG thing given so many more genuine black ones are seen .

Just to add to the observations I've not found a gray on a San Jose car (67-70) in the last 45 or so years
And for all plants I agree that gray ones are the least often found and the reason black was chosen as the one to reproduce

Thank you gentlemen.

I think same vendor made both shields just a running change in 68 from grey to black like the trunk lh wheelhouse luggage protector went from black to grey in 68.

If that was the case then I wouldn't have found what appeared as unmolested black ones on 67 survivor cars.

I have seen both black and gray on 68 Metuchen cars

That is what I thought too. Thanks for the conformation.
