I’m looking at an early built Sept 64 convertible. It does not have exterior chrome trim in quarters. Current owner states some early 65s didn’t have them. C code car drum brakes with out power top. Thanks in advance

Coupes/convertibles with the Accent Group option didn't have them. Of course, fastbacks should not have them either.
The Accent Group deletes the qtr ornaments, includes a painted accent stripe and rocker panel moldings.

Thank you

I just want to clarify the point. if the seller is trying to justify the car not having the quarter panel trim because it was early, that would not be true. Early or late does not make a difference. All had the quarter panel trim except for the fastback 2+2 body style, and the hardtops and convertibles with the decor exterior trim which deleted it. So, if the car has the rocker panel molding and the paint stripe, then it would not have the trim. Early or late does not make a difference.

Sorry to bring up an old post but wanted to add a 1965 Coupe with the GT option wouldn't have the quarter panel ornament too, right? Whoops, subject was about an early '65 - just wanted to be clear on the Accent Group and later GT option.
-
Correct a 1965 factory GT Coupe (or any GT for that matter) would not have the quarter panel chrome trim.
-
How was the trim attached? Pins and sockets? Ours doesn't have the trim at the quarters, but is by no means original and has been painted at least once. It is in the body shop now and I would like to look for clues.

Check the inside surface of the quarter panels for work (welding or filling) if they are original and have not been replaced. If replaced during earlier body work and rebuild you won't be able to use that to determine
You can sand down the rockers and look for signs of mounting holes for the retainers for the rocker molding also

The driver's side 1/4 was cut out and replaced. No pin holes were evident. Highly likely the 1/4 panel is original given the rot. The right 1/4 was not replaced but shows no holes for pin sockets either. I have more trim questions but am starting a new thread.

I'm interested in this topic too. My k code coupe, Dec 64 Dearborn build, was ordered with the accent group. If I understand the above explanation I won't have the qtr panel chrome but I should have the accent stripe and chrome above the rockers?
My car has the chrome trim about the rockers but no accent stripe, which I'm now wondering to add or not.
Did K codes come with the stripe?
How do I know what color stripe?
Mine is Ivy Green Metallic and palomino interior.

Does the stripe always match the interior?

No

No
Thanks Jeff
So, how do I know what color to apply? Or is it simply choosing one of black, white and?

Thanks Jeff

I think I found it on another forum: red, blue (rare), black and white. Not sure any of these would work with my color but it would be nice to know what my car came with.

Don't know if you can say for certain. I suggest you try and find another example - unrestored - with the same exterior and interior color as a basis for a choice going forward

Great suggestion, and as soon as I read your post I remembered the fall 64 Dearborn unrestored ivy green thread so went to peruse. Unfortunately no exterior shots. I?ll keep looking.

Started a new thread to focus on the combinations of interior, exterior and stripe colors of cars I have pictures of
