Title: 65K Code Choke Cable Routing
Post by: 65KGT on January 25, 2020, 08:08:53 PM
For a May 65 Dearborn K Code, was the clip marked 3 in the assembly drawing below ever used in production? (The clip holding the choke cable against the shock tower brace). Its a typical wiring style clip.

Thanks.

Was there one on your car?

The clip was not on the car when I got it 4 years ago and I have never actually seen one installed.

Using the search function, I found a few threads on this site mentioning its existence and the part number and application are listed in Jim's 64-66 hardware spreadsheet but I could not find confirmation that it was actually used.

My car was "restored" in the late 80's in northern California following San Jose cars. A lot of these small details have been lost but this site has greatly helped to get it back in shape.

Thanks,
James

Not that it fully proves a fact one way or another here are some examples from Dearborn 65 production. What I looked closely to see if there was one present or if there are any marks remaining in the paint on the shock tower braces/supports that might indicate if there was one there originally that was knocked off. Didn't find any yet

Some observations.

I see the coil is mounted on the intake manifold. A "generator" car? Is that "corrosion" on the vale cover?

It looks like the heater hoses have been replaced, or at least the sealer scraped from the firewall. Also a road draft tube is present.

Is it possible the choke cable is routed thru the heater hose retaining strap?

Yes corrosion/rust working its way under the chrome plating. Not sure why the current/past owner moved it. They do that sort of things at times. Cars is/was 5F08K1871xx

Yes the heater hoses have been changed - typical maintenance sort of thing and the sealer applied at Dearborn gets hard over the years so not surprising that we see that the process loosened it up

Possible?   Don' think it is but allot of things would be possible. Never seen or heard of one being routed that way or for that matter clipped to the firewall to cowl pinch weld with the windshield washer hoses or through an wireloom retainer. Wonder if the engineers consider those - but that really doesn't matter since that is not our focus :)

See allot of pictures of Shelby's where the cable takes a dip downward as it makes it's turn towards the master cylinder but of course that are San Jose cars but the curve and dip look pretty natural and unrestrictive

That would make it a 64.5 generator car, so coil mounted on intake would be correct...

Thanks very much for the photos. They contain a lot of good information.
I will leave the clip off. I had tried it on the car before and it did not seem do much of anything and if you looked at it too hard, it would fall off.
I had never seen one installed and just came across it when looking for something else in the electrical assembly manual.
