Title: 70 B302 15x7" steel wheels
Post by: 67gta289 on January 21, 2020, 09:50:38 PM
I have a line on some 1970 Boss 302 15x7" standard steel wheels, part# D0OZ-1007-A.   Can anyone help with the telltales of the proper wheel, so that I don't get taken by a close alternative?  I'm thinking about backspace measurement and diameter of hub hole, things like that.  Thanks in advance. John

Did you ever find the info you were looking for? I have the same question. I know the 1971 15x7 wheels (Boss 351 & mach 1 as an option IIRC) are not "correct" for a 1970 Boss 302 but wouldn't they still be the same wheel but with different part number? Same for the 15x7 wheels that were on Torino or Fairlane?

If I'm not mistaken, these wheels were used on 70 Boss 302's, 1971 Boss 351's, and as an optional wheel on 70/71 Torinos and are all identical except for the date code. An easy way to spot them is that they have a solid center without the 4 openings between the center and the wheel rim, and as far as I know they are the only 15 x 7 Ford bolt pattern wheel that use this center. They are tough to find as not many Torinos were optioned with them and they are really in demand with the Boss 302/351 guys.

Heres a pic from the Classic Cougar site that shows the center without the openings, and another pic of incorrect wheels that shows the opening I'm talking about.

I understand we are talking about the wheel "eyes" or lack thereof but the first wheel has three hubcap nubs and is valid through 1967. It's a T-bird wheel.
The second has just a standard "D" shaped eye and it too is 1967 or earlier due to the three hubcap nubs.
When looking for a wheel for 1968 or later always see if the wheel has 4 hubcap nubs.
There are also 15x7 wheels with no eyes and have no nubs at all. Those are either T-Bird or Crown Vic.
