Title: 1968 San Jose GT 390 Fastback Console restoration
Post by: bullitt68 on September 26, 2019, 12:12:42 AM
I am trying to find out if there is someone out there who restores consoles. I saw a post on Facebook on a Mustang page for a guy who claimed to restore them, but I can't find it so hopefully someone here knows someone. Mine is not bad, but I would like it as new looking if possible. I also saw a console at a car show that looked great, and it turns out the owner had a guy wrap his console in leather. It is not correct, but it looked great. Not sure what my options are and I hear that 68 4 speed console are hard to find and no reproductions are available.

Thanks

I purchased a restored 67'  4spd console from Bill Herndon years ago, still looks great. He used to have quite a few in stock, but that was a while back. He might restore them, or could point you in the right direction.

PM sent.  There is someone here in the Detroit area that does very high quality repair of consoles, kick panels, door panel, dash pads etc. If anyone is interested in the contact information shoot me a message and I’ll pass it on

Can they take a 67 console and convert it to a 68 version? I have a 67 console in my 68 Sprint B.

Not easily since only the plastic base is (almost) the same.
Most other trim parts are different (68 is padded vs. 67 is non-padded).
