1965 Mustang C-Code 289/C4/AC, 15 Aug 64 build date, Dearborn
AC bracket p/n C5AA-2882-C.
For cars with AC and PS what is the correct compressor and pump brackets?
Is the crank pulley 2 or 3 groove?
My AC bracket has 3 bolts holding it on. Shouldnt those be studs?
Also one of the bolts has a washer between the bracket and head, so something there doesnt seem correct.
The car doesnt currently have PS, but I think it may have had it at some point. Other than the frame rail threads for the ram bracket and the steering box, is there any other way to tell? Was PS available as a dealer installed option?

Did it originally come with AC and power steering from the factory? If yes to both I believe Dearborn used the remote reservoir Eaton pump that mounted to the inner fender. Any holes close to where the washer bag would be?
-
If you have AC and no PS, a spacer between the bracket and head would be correct. That spacer takes up the space where the PS bracket would go.

Was PS available as a dealer installed option?
Yes there were kits available through the parts system to add PS to cars.
Like kits dealing with adding air conditioning it took a couple of kits to get al the parts. For PS you had a steering and pump kits for different applciation
A few examples of different types of kits offered

This was another kit I bought from JD Larson. I don’t have a pic of the box but I can get one if needed

Im planning on owning this car until someone gets it in my will.
As I go through the car and do maintenance, I want to return it to factory original or as close to it as I can.
Im guessing that there were several AC and PS options.
If a car came with PS and the dealer added AC, did the PS pump bracket get changed?
When was dealer AC available?
Im pretty sure my AC is factory, its still R12 as well.
More importantly, what PS options would be considered correct and incorrect for my 15 Aug 64 build date in Dearborn?
-
Does AC and PS require a 3 groove crank pulley?

I would recommend that you get a set of 65 Mustang Assembly Manuals (there are 6 plus the 64-65 Chassis Manual). They will answer most of your questions as to factory installations. Ford service kits may not be the same as factory, and aftermarket kits are not that accurate. You will make mistakes in acquisition of parts, but that's normal for a 54 year car.
Good luck.
