Hi,

I found a couple of numbers on my bumpers, but not sure if these are original date stamps, worn date stamps after replating, or other stamps on a repro.

Car is a 1967 Mustang GTA Convertible, April in Dearborn.

Searching for other bumper date stamp info on the forum suggests these codes are not original.

Pictures of the rear bumper above the license plate follow. Stamps are "J6" "Ro" "X"

Any insight is appreciated.

Dave

Would agree - Don't recall every seeing those stampings on an original rear bumper

Don't know if you found pictures of an original bumper date stamp in your search or not but here is an example of a date code on an original 67 Dearborn bumper.

There is also (in case you have not explored that are of the site yet ;) an article in the Library Section that covers date coding of parts - and there is a section in it related to bumpers

Thanks again for the additional info.

I am now on the search for original bumpers to get rechromed.

I found bumpers with these date stamps. Owner says they are off a '68 car that was made in September 1967.

Could someone help to decipher them (the article in the library section references 69 & 70):

Front bumper stamped codes are: 9 5 2 and M8 67                    (is that a September 5, 1967, made 2nd shift bumper?)

Rear bumper stamped code is : M3 - 111                                  (is that missing a year?)

Thanks,
Dave

Well have not seen any bumpers stamped like the rear example. In addition to the one posted earlier by rodster Here are three more

As for your example could the "M3" be a porrly stamped or read "M8"? If so then the patter is reversed. Not normal but we do see through the years examples where the date ingots get put int he holders backwards or individual numbers/letters backwards. If so date isn't going to work with the car you mentioned

As for the front example - haven't seen an original with the additional digits on the end of the pattern But have seen allot less front bumpers for the 67-8s than rears for examples so could not eliminate it as a possibility of being an original or an early service replacement

Since you mentioned 67 in the first post, I had 67 on my brain and didn't think about checking the bumpers off of my 68 Feb NJ car.

Interestingly enough, looks like the bumpers you found seem to match (including the M3!) what was on my 68 and if I understand the date codes looks like my 68 bumpers would be dated correct for a Feb build.

Front bumper stamped codes are: 1 23 2 and M8 63                    (Jan 23rd, 1968, made 2nd shift bumper?)

Rear bumper stamped code is : 1 11 4   3M                                 (Jan 11th?)

I had pictures of the date codes but didn't have the pictures named 'front/rear' and curiosity got the best of me so I had to run out to the garage to check.  ;)

I don't recall seeing that rear date code style before but seems we have two examples now. One  more thing for Jeff to look for now.  ;D

Could you post pictures of the 68 bumper date codes?

Believe your date pattern for the rear is the typical one - its his that seems to be reversed for some reason  1 11 4   3M   (rodster)   verses M3 - 111 (dlevy) and possibly the 3 is suppose to be an "8"  That would be the year as we see in the front bumpers on 65-66 for example

We have seen patterns in oddities - producing a sub pattern - in stamped steel parts stamped at Ford plants.

Another point of reference - this is a rear bumper I bought from my local Ford dealer in 1982.  Has part number sticker, as expected (unlike those installed at the factory).  Also has date stamp.
