We're these lights factory original or were there mounted as an option..? In case they were original, where exactly were them mounted.?
Thanks
Josep

Underhood

No, I do not believe this would not be an original light for your '66.
The picture at the link provided is a very similar reproduction of the C2RZ-15A700-A, which is typically a "Dealer added" light that is added after delivery or by an owner.
NOS Original Ford of the same are regularly available on eBay if wanting an original one.

Richard, my car is a 66 San Jose.
The question I am asking here is if they were mounted from factory or by dealer/owner.
Now I see from your post that this was a common option added by dealer or owner, and not from factory.
Many thanks,
Josep

Josep : As Richard noted, the light to which you had the link, is frequently available on Ebay, in its original (not Repo) Ford form. These were available through the Ford Dealers' Parts Counters from 1962 until well into the 80's. Ford actually reissued this part in the late 60's or early 70's, and not only kept the original Part Number noted by Richard, but also kept the original 1962 Copyrighted Instruction Sheet. The only change in the actual part being a slightly different shade of paint (the original issues were more "greenish", while the later ones were more "grayish"), and a slightly different cutout in the cover for the bulb to shine through. The original issues also came in a red and white Rotunda box, while the reissues were in a blue and white Ford box.
One other small item while discussing Factory versus Dealer installed items; Typically, "Options" are considered as items that can be ordered with the vehicle, and installed at the Factory when the vehicle is built. "Accessories" are "extra" items that could be purchased from the Dealer, and be installed by the Dealer, the Owner or the Owner's Mechanic, after the car was delivered to the Dealer. To add to the confusion, there are cases where Dealers have added Accessories to a car after it was shipped to them, and before they put it up for sale. This has brought about comments like "It must be Factory Original since I bought it new from the Dealer this way". To further add to the confusion, there are many items that were available as both an Option and an Accessory ; Power Brakes, Power Steering, Luggage Rack, Floor Mats (in 1967 as part of the "Protection Group" along with License Plate Frames and Door Edge Guards), Radios, etc. Dealers could add any of these "Accessory" items to make a car more desirable to prospective buyers.
Just thought this might be a good time to take care of a little "semantics" for future Posts.

H Bob, thanks very much for the explanation.
Yes, I've noted that color difference while seeing a NOS light in eBay.
About the terms accessorie and option now I understand and apologize for how I described it before, but since English is not my home language, I know I make a lot of mistakes. Now is clear to me now so in the future I can refer correctly when I need to use these terms.
Great information about the light, thank you very much.!

Josep

So, that's the one..?
They ask for $75 plus shipping, what do you think.? Personally I think it's a good choice for me that I'm overseas but...

Josep : Sorry I haven't been able to respond sooner - just got back from being out of town for a few days. Yes, that looks like the "Original Issue" of the Hood/ Trunk Light Accessory. The later issue ones are typically around $50, so the $75 may not be too bad, depending on how much shipping cost to you would be. If you use it for an under hood (engine compartment) application, you may want to consider the C6AZ-15A700-A, Utility Reel Light, for the Trunk. I've attached a couple of pictures of it. Right now, I only see one of these on Ebay, and I think that it is way over priced (should be about half of what is listed.
If you get either one, or both, and they are missing the Installation Instruction Sheet, I can Email you either.

No problem Bob.! Thanks for your post.
The shipping costs should be $19.50 as stated by the seller, so around $95. OK, not cheap, but if I decide I want it, that's the only way.
The pics you've sent shows a different item, the one I posted has the reference num R 57 A and the one you've posted has R 57 B. Are both correct..? I mainly want it for the trunk area. Have to check if it comes with the installation instructions sheet, but good to know you can provide.! I have to think about what I want, accessorie is nice, but on the other hand, it was not originally in the car, either from dealer or previous owner. What do you do in my situation.? Thanks
Josep
-
Josep: The one I posted the pictures of was to show what else was available besides the "basic" C2RZ Hood/ Trunk Light that was available. Yes, both are "correct" as available Dealer Accessories in 1966 (either of which could have been installed by the Dealer, but are not Factory correct). My purpose in showing the R57-B was, that if you were considering both an Accessory Hood Light and an Accessory Trunk Light, you could use the "-A" for the Hood, and the "-B" for the Trunk (or vice versa).
Hope this helps.

OK Bob, thanks for the input.!
Yes, I understand they are not factory correct as they are not options, but accessories.!
But since accessories were dealer supplied, then it's a personal decision if you put it or not.
My car is not going to any concours show but, I think, even if it has the trunk light from dealer back in 66, it should go to concours with no problem. Thanks for your posts Bob.!

Remember that you have to drill holes to install these lights... Personally I would not do it unless the car had them dealer-installed when new... with documentation.
-
You are right Charles, that's what stops me for a while.
I have bought the light, anyway but will think what to do since there are no holes in the trunk lid.
Probably I will end by selling it again, or just keeping it as memorabilia.

Just wondering how they would work (just for show) using a thin magnet to mount them. Yes it would not be original nor concours
Just a thought - bought a K code fastback once for an overseas buyer that had the air cleaner decals mounted that way
-
Not a bad idea at all, but that magnet would be difficult to find, at least here !
But an idea to consider, thanks Jeff.
-
Or possibly 3M Double Sided Mounting Tape ? It's only about 1/16" (1.6 mm) thick, and would hold better than the magnet tape. Granted, you may have to also use the 3M adhesive Remover to clean off the residue if you removed it, but no holes.

That's a great idea too but, with all those solutions I'm wondering from were the light takes the negative connection. I can only see one wire going out from the light (?). Thought it took from screws in the lid, by the contact.
Josep
-
Josep : You are absolutely correct; the screw is where they get the ground connection. So, unless you are the owner of some "invisible wires", you'd need some kind of a clip or "pin prick" device (screw point or something like that) to make the ground; either of which would probably scratch the paint.
I guess that's one of the purposes of these Forums; to "kick things around" and bring up things which may have been forgotten or not thought of in a Reply.
Personally, I have no problem in adding an Accessory item to my cars, as long as they are Genuine Ford, and can be documented as being available for the year car in question.

Thanks for the point Bob. I thought I was missing something LOL..!!
Yeah, it's a matter of everyone, on one hand you have that it was not accessoried from origin, or maybe later, and on the other hand, it's an original Ford accessory time correct for my car so....

As far as grounding - if used and installed for a show you wouldn't want it on and working anyway runnign down the battery - beside battery is often disconnect at shows .
-
Yeah, They were used Underhood, but also in the trunk as well.
I thought that these below would be appropriate...
