Found a pic of an owner's manual recently. I thought the earliest sold date was 4/16/64 to the school teacher?

Yes, I believe so. It has hardtop written on one of the lines, so it's either 5F07F, 5F07D or 5F07U.

Build date is 03D. Isn't that April 3?. One week from build to sale?

Dealerships were obviously handed out Mustangs AHEAD of the 17th "release to the public" date and transport companies needed time to get the cars from Dearborn to the individual dealerships but IMHO, the third of the month to the 11th of the same month, THAT close to Dearborn is still a large gap. My guess is there were many more Mustangs that sold ahead of the 17th, just simply enough of those sales, original documentation no longer exists. As time goes by, we could find more examples...or not. I suppose it all depends as more people become aware of stories like "The Teacher's Car"

"Mustang Production Guide" examples built with those axle and trans codes during that period were 6 bangers. So probably 5F07U.

Keep in mind that this is only a scheduled/projected build date, not necessarily the real build date.

Agree. If there are no records, then nobody knows for sure. It would be fitting that the actual first one sold was a standard 6 cyl. :D

The "school teacher" has been an excellent Ambassador for the Mustang, especially during the 50th Anniversary, so I am happy to let sleeping dogs lie on this one.
