Title: oil dipstick 1970 M code 351 4V
Post by: flyhigh@mach1 on October 14, 2015, 07:43:07 PM
I'm looking to replace a non-stock oil dipstick for my 1970 351C 4V.  Looks like from what I have read that the correct part # is DOAE-6750-A.  I have the opportunity to buy a part # DOAE-6750-C.  Looks identical to the -A dipstick.  I'm more concerned about the oil level marks being accurate.  Anyone know if this -C dipstick will work and what it is suppose to be installed on?  My eyes are burning from searching the web!  Thanks......

The D0AE-6750-C dip stick is for a 351W. The markings will be off because of the length.

Ok, that's the info I was looking for.  I'll continue my search for the right stick!  Anyone have one or have a suggestion where to look?

Showing the measurements for Scott's answer. First column is 351W, second is 351C, fourth is 351CJ.

Big difference in length and where the markings are.  Thanks again for the info.  I did an oil change with new Motorcraft FL-1A oil filter and 5 quarts 10W-30 w ZDDPlus zinc additive.  I'll mark the current dipstick at the oil level it is now and call that full.

So looking at your chart, for 1970, the part # is DOAZ-6750-A...NOT DOAE-6750-A......I see a "Z" instead of a "E" in the letter sequence.  Will either work for a 351 C engine?

D0AZ-A is the service part, D0AE-A is the original part used on the assembly line. In many (but not all) cases, the service part will be marked with the assembly part number. And the service part doesn't always match as closely, especially as time passes and substitutions are made. It's a peculiarity of how Ford handles service parts. One of my winter projects is to finish compiling a detailed explanation of how the whole system works.

I don't have any personal knowledge about this specific dipstick, but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that there aren't any physically marked "D0AZ-A". You are looking for one marked "D0AE-A"... which vendors will probably have listed under "D0AZ-A"!

Here's some photos from a current auction:

Great info...this stuff can drive one mad!  OK, I just ordered one off EBay for $35, OEM, never used.  Sitting on parts shelf for years.

Thanks again Dave Z

Congratulations, that's a much better price than the auction I used as a reference!  ;)

Hang in there, this was a relatively simple one. Part numbers can get a lot more confusing!
