Title: 65 HiPo Ignition Coil Location
Post by: 6S280 on February 19, 2015, 12:25:25 AM
On a Dec '64 San Jose Hi Po coupe, where is the coil located?  On the front of the passenger side head?  How deep does the coil sit in the coil bracket?  Is the bracket around the middle of the coil?

Yes, RH cylinder head.  The position on the bracket varied, but most originals I've seen had more of the coil above the bracket.  Ink stamp usually at base, so can be mostly covered up.

One other detail to note in Jeff's pic is the hole in the bracket, yet the coil is not indexed with the bump as the coil doesn't have it in this instance.  Overlap of parts.

I believe this picture is of a 65 Shelby, 5S114 in Paris, France 1965.
As can be seen nothing of the stamp on the coil is visible.
I bought a stamped coil from Larsen and followed this picture when I
put it on the original engine in 5S275. Nothing of the stamp is seen and if
I remove the coil the print will probably be on the inside of the bracket.
