Title: Trans colour
Post by: V8_bloke_28 on February 04, 2015, 01:49:05 AM
Hi
What is the original trans colour for my 67 fback 390 c6 build late June 67 in San Jose?
Also what colour should the trans cross member be?
Cheers

Which transmission?

Basically the same for all classic years (FMX is a combination of both)

Both were finished the same way (both bare metal)  but of course one would be bare cast steel and the other bare cast aluminum

There are a number of treads related to cleaning and refreshing aluminum cases here on the site

As for the transmission cross member for a 67 most would like to see bare steel  ::)

Sand blasting even lightly will change the texture of the outer surface and produce a mono tone finish. Unlike the original finish.

If you have any kind of metal finishing shops near you try this. I found a shop that does different kinds of metal cleaning/shot tumbling. I had them clean the bell housing on my fmx, they glass beaded it then tumbled it in steel shot. After that I coated it with RPM and it turned out fantastic. Even did it to the power steering pump bracket. PM me if you want more details, I could give the number to the shop and he could tell what to look for.
