66 Wiring harness
« on: March 07, 2014, 12:42:44 AM »
Helping a friend of mine restore a 66 San Jose Coupe built in Jan 66 (sheet metal from 11/65 and 12/65).  He has the original wiring harness but for some reason the car never had the emergency flasher in the glove box and there are no connections in the main harness.  I always though this was standard on 66 cars.  Was this implemented later in production?  And would they have put a 65 GT harness in the car to accommodate for the gauges and no flasher?

I believe the early '66 cars would have had a non-integral emergency flasher setup with a separate wiring harness.  Later '66 had the wiring made into the main harness and a plug-in switch.  The early style switch had integral wiring.

The MPC shows a 3/1/66 changeover date.

My MAR 15 Metuchen car has integral wiring and the glovebox switch.  It is definitely on the "after changeover" list.

So it's my car that Chris was originally asking about.  Not only did the original wiring harness not include the flashers, but there's no evidence there was ever a switch in the glove box.  When my Dad bought it used in 1969, it had flasher controls under the dash (see attached picture).  Is this possibly a dealer installed item or the creativity of the previous owner?

IF it was dealer installed then the original owner got taken to the cleaners since the car should have had the flashers (required by law) It may have been (now that we've seen the box) that the PO added t or had someone add the fader (along with one or more additional speakers) and since it had the ability to do the flasher control also they disconnected, spliced in (nice tape job there)  and removed the factory stuff.

Never seen a controller like this - Ford/Rotunda or aftermarket in the period catalogs that I recall. Do have plenty of 66 San Jose cars built before yours and after with the normal factory four way flashers installed
