Ivygreen's pics of 65 289
« on: January 13, 2014, 11:40:04 AM »
Alright. I'm refining this message. Ivygreen has (had) some real NICE pics of a 65' 289 on an engine stand. Concourse correctly painted and dressed. Jeff talked in another section of the blue fan on the alternator; Jeff elaborate on this idea of some with blue fan blades please. Can either one of these guys give me a better title on this thread or post pics again. I would think this would apply nicely for my wife's late April build (A code 289, 4 speed)? Thanks, Pat

The blue alternator fan/pulley, as far as I know, was used on June and July 1965 Dearborn cars.  I believe Jeff has also documented some San Jose applications, but I'm not sure what the window of production is when they were used.  I don't believe your April build is applicable if you want to be correct.

As a sidenote, if you're wanting to use the blue fan/pulley to be unique, be prepared for a lot of questions and raised eyebrows with regards to the authenticity and originality of the color.  Documentation like this helps

but there is still, probably justifiably so, skepticism.  My original fan/pulley were blue, and I had a good amount of original paint on the back of the fan to match to, so I don't have a problem with it.

Thanks! You (Ivy) also have some other posted pics of a redone 289 (maybe the same engine you were talking about) on an engine stand for reference. Can you show those as well. Gold air cleaner and valve covers! My build date is a month or 2 too soon for the blue as well. I will use black to be correct.

IMHO no reason to consider doing the blue fan on a car unless you find it that way.  Seems that less that .001 percent or production got them and the pattern so far does not help explain their application.

As mentioned your are more likely going to get deducted for the fan or fan & pulley than not from a less experienced judge and at this point allot of finger pointing ;)

I've got one car that came with the blue fan - really wish the car hadn't ... will get tired I'm sure explaining over and over and over
