Purpose ?
« on: October 14, 2013, 05:19:10 PM »
Top of the picture between the shock tower braces is a 1" access hole w/plug.  All 69's have this feature.  Does the hole have a purpose ?  Thanks,  Brian

Most of those holes are for alignment of different sheet metal parts. On other items, carburetors for example where a lead plug or aluminum disc is used, they cover a passageway for fuel or air. Have you removed your plug to see if there's anything interesting behind it?

To apply sealer or sound deadener inside cowl is what I always thought it was for! ??? But I've been wrong before!

Don't know of any purpose but then it would not be the only feature on the body that lacks a purpose (left over from some engineer ;)

IMHO Another example is the floor pan plugs though designed into the floor pan for cars that were dipped (larger cars built on other lines) in primer our inexpensive cars were simply sprayed but the engineers continued to include the drains in the unibody design

It served as an ENTRY for a 'pack rat" that lived in the car while in the junkyard in AZ !!

The area around it was POLISHED LIKE CHROME - and you can see the "bristles" of the animals fur!

P.S. It was one thing I DIDN"T reproduce while restoring the car - though I did leave a peratfied Orange rhrine in the door from the lizard.

Absolutely they count.  Any time the nerd section of engineers can be supplimented by people that have muscles is a good day...

That hole has odd size plug & cant be access hole as much easier to get in openings from top side with cowl panel removed. It does tell you where the center of car is ;D

Thanks guys.  Most likely used with a jig to set the firewall/toe-kick panel.  Looking at my car that panel is welded to the floor panel.  I don't know what came next but I would guess the fender aprons because the are definitely a factory fit at the firewall.  Brian
