64 1/2 original wheel
« on: April 28, 2012, 11:48:33 PM »
Can anyone confirm that this is an original 64 1/2 wheel? It should be, but I've never seen originals before. My car came with reproduction styled-steel wheels.

I just bought 5 of these, 14" x 5" for V8 all with a 4MF date code. My 64 1/2 is a 19 June '64 car.

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks for the feedback. I bought what I thought to be an original radiator a while back and it wasn't the real thing. For these wheels, I was wanting feedback from others that had original wheels to be sure the markings shown in the pictures I posted were what Ford used (placement, font, stamping, etc..), that they compared to what's been seen on early mustangs.

Thanks,
Chris

"M" is "Motor Wheels" - large supplier to Ford.

The decode is then
4=1964
M=Motor wheels
F=June

But this same decode procedure cannot applied to the 1965 wheel as the second letter is the month...

My question, when do you read the second prefix as the month and when do you read it as the wheel supplier?

As far as I know the M will always be the supplier on the wheels...I've seen wheels up to 69 with the same format.  I'm sure Charles and Jeff can confirm or deny....

Thanks Fast and Chris,

So the decode is incorrect on the VMF site and should read

5M6
5=1965
M=Motor wheels
6=?

5MC
5=1965
M=Motor wheels.
C= March
