Floor Mats
« on: July 11, 2011, 11:22:45 PM »
Couple of questions.  I assume floor mats were more of an over the counter item from the dealer and the cars didn't come from the factory with floor mats...Am I safe to assume that?  If so, what design of floor mats were actually available and in what color for say early 65 Mustangs?  Trying to see if green was available or if that was more for later cars...

Chris, Check out the mats here at VA Mustang. They are very correct reproductions, ford licensed and available in most colors to match your interior. I'm guessing you've got an Ivy Gold/Green interior?

These mats originally were a dealer over the counter item much like they are now.

I know they sell them but what was original back then?  I have a set of black but wanted to see if green was actually available for early 65 or if the other colors didn't come until later.

Not sure on the colors, Charles or Jeff may know.
I've seen NOS (claimed) ones on Ebay in lots of colors...I've got Black since my interior is Black....

Don't have a dealer accessory catalog handy for your year (it would list the colors and design) There were ones without the running horse also.

According the the 1965 Rotunda and FoMoCo accessories catalog floor mats for the Mustang came in; black, white, red, blue and palamino. The other Ford cars had some other colors like turquoise, clear, gold and burgundy. (The gold was in the Ford line and they look nothing like the mustang mat)I would say based on this book that no, green was not avaible in early 65. Maby 66? I don't have that catalog. Also the catalog does not show the two diffrent mustang mat styles and only lists one part number. I can not tell from the crappy photo if there is a pony on these or not in the catalog.

The price a whopping $7.95 for the front and $4.95 for the rear.

Chris, were you ever able to determine anything regarding your floor mats?  I'm kind of in the same boat as you were in that I have a palomino interior but not sure if palomino colored floor mats were originally available and would be considered correct or if customers who chose palomino interior chose black floor mats if palomino floor mats were not available/didn't exist.

Does anyone happen to have a copy they would be willing to share?  Or possible upload?

I'm also curious Matt. When I called a vendor 12 or 13 years ago (can't remember which one), I was told palomino interior would have used the dark brown floor mats. I bought the set, but ever since have been wondering it that was correct.

Yeah, I don't know, trying to get confirmation if Palomino colored mats were an original color option back then or if the customer got black mats.  I know some people on here have the FOMOCO and Rotunda accessories catalog, hoping they will respond.

BTW what color are your seatbelts?  I have aftermarket saddle colored belts and I'm looking for an original set in Palomino.

thanks,
Matt

I only have the Accessories catalog from '66 unfortunately. They have an illustration of Jeff's photo of the red mat with no Horse, blue rears and then at the bottom of the page list "Clear, Red, Blue, Black and Parchment being available in any style. Part numbers of C5ZZ 6513086 for Front, C5ZZ 6513106 for the rears....you'll love the prices listed though: $7.95 fronts, $4.96 rears...!
