69-70 Windshield Lower Molding insulation strip

Since this relates to both Mustang and Shelbys of this period I thought it best to place this here.

Looking at original cars discovered that there was a small strip of adhesive weatherstrip attached to the lower edge of the windshield under the lower molding. Not sure if the original purpose was to seal the lower edge or to insulate the molding from the windshield, maybe to reduce possible rattles. In any case here are some original examples and what we used.

Original application of the thin strip of weatherstrip. The material is a fairly dense rubber strip with adhesive side.

Here is the material we purchased for this application. Slightly larger but it will likely settle down with time






Here is the application on my current project - Yes we added a little sealer under the screws for good measures . None of these will be seen when the car is together.

Thanks Jeff, the strip on my 69 is about 7.5mm wide and the height between the molding and the glass is about 5.5mm

It may have a few functions, one being to catch moisture before it can come to rest where the window is sealed?

 Or keep from reaching that point and letting the air push it elsewhere - sure it was something like that.  Don't think Ford would have spent the money unless some engineer thought it would do some good
