Phill, the square hose is the only type that I have found on any of the unmolested 65 Shelby's that I specialize in over the years. Do you have evidence that a 65 Shelby like time frame car did not use the square tube ?

Since it's a San Jose assembly plant thing, I would have to assume that at least the first batch of 100 '65 Shelby's had the round hose defroster duct.  Unfortunately, I don't have any pics of this detail on actual Shelby's.

Both of my January '65 Dearborn convertibles have the round heater hoses--just for another reference point.

All of the "first batch" early GT350s that I have seen, use the round hose.

My findings match what Charles has posted.

I will have to seek out these early examples to help get a better of this transition time frame. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

I will have to double check, but I think 5S162 may even have the round hoses.

BOB/CHARLES/BRANT

im assisting in a car very close number wise to Brants example provided and the inside cowl still have the cardboard ducts in place although severely damaged and not re-useable there was still a small length of the round defroster duct attached.
from there I set out to source another set from a Australian car that was built in San Jose with a late January 65 (schedule build).

I also sourced a round set for a Shelby owner that is also in the first 100 GT350's as he is certain his car also had the round versions,

that's all I can add to the topic so far.

Have made an observation over the years that Dearborn and Metuchen for the most part used the Square Heater Hoses in '65-'66 and that San Jose used the Round Hoses for the most part in '65-'66..

Just an observation..

TONY,  I have evidence that supports the notion that early 65's ex San Jose had round examples and then it was transitioned into the square versions for the rest of the 65 years and continues through the entire 66 year.
owned several unrestored San Jose 66 cars that all have square hoses no matter the build date.

remember Charles and I having a discussion some time ago and he had a better handle of vin number and dates from cars he has restored and or pulled apart

Think we can help out there. We've already planned on doing a survey of this item for the 65 San Jose running changes so will post a separate thread like we have in the past and the conclusion in the overall project thread. Certain we'll find that the round ones were replaced by the square ones just have to figure out when the change took place.

My 15 May 1965 SJ fastback 5R09A2222xx has the square hoses. Can't guarantee that they haven't been replaced over time, but when I changed the heater core, all other parts appeared original.

Thanks for the picture. Will use the info when I do that survey. Also helps with about four other details that will help other things.

Round hoses were used on 64.5 through early 65.  Have seen them on cars up through Feb '65... San Jose and Dearborn.

Did a quick survey and got a pretty narrow but still rough change over time period of Feb 65. Projected build date of my current latest sequential and projected build date round defroster hoses is 5R18481x/Feb 9 1965

The lowest sequential and projected build date of 5R1883xx/Feb 18 1965
