Holley choke covers
« on: July 14, 2015, 11:32:27 PM »
Ran across an obscure little tidbit I hadn't noticed before in the '68 shop manual. In the carb specs section it lists choke cover markings for Holley 4150-C carbs. The applications are as follows:

C8OF-C (390GT M/T) - "GT1"
C8OF-D (390GT A/T) - "GTA"
C8AF-AD (427 A/T) - "57M1"

No info on 428CJ covers - my manual was printed in Nov. 67.

I'm posting this because I could only find one indirect reference in another thread. Maybe this can serve as a one-stop reference for folks seeking this info in the future.

I checked my recently acquired C8OF-D carb, and it has the correct "GTA" cap. I have another one in storage that I haven't checked yet. I don't have any photos handy of my own covers, but I did find a "GTA" in an auction that I'm including below. Sorry, couldn't find pics of the other markings.

Good information!  Who would have thought to look in the shop manual!  ;)

I questioned whether the 57 MI choke cover was correct on my 67

and it appears it is. I don't have a 67 shop manual yet to check.

I found the marking information you mentioned in the 66 shop manual too.

The Shop manual Kind of goes along with TSB article #1449 that does mention a note about the "new" CJ carbs and choke caps

68 2 CJ carb
C8OF-AA for Manual (w/ GT-1) choke housing
C8OF-AB w/ Auto (w/GT-A) housing

Also list a somewhat related note about the new blue- idle adjustment mixture caps

Guess if we can get digital pictures or each type and cover up through 71 then we could put together an article for the site

Not sure how much this will help. It's from the '75 MPC. Looks like some of the ones we've talked about are not even listed. Perhaps there's better info in the '68 MPC? This may not be very accurate regarding original application, but it does give some service part numbers that may help in tracking down further leads.
