67 interior rear view mirror colors
« on: May 31, 2015, 10:33:03 PM »
I've see a few 67 interior rear view mirrors for sale that claim to be original, and in color (red and blue specifically).  Similar case for the vinyl covered auto trans shift selector handle.  Both of my what appear to be original are black.  This is from a two tone blue deluxe interior.

Any observations out there on when and/or where color keyed components were used?

My observations on 67's have been the same, I have only seen black mirrors & shifter handles. My observations might be slighted towards San Jose built cars.

Could it be yet another '67 assembly plant/production date anomaly? Maybe we will find out in this thread.

I have seen quite a number of the colored mirrors although most were all most black from sun damage. John you are right many of the deluxe interior cars had the black handle. I see far more of the colored ones in Cougars. I have tried to find a pattern as to why a lot of red interior car had black belts and I can not find one. IMHO I think that in theses situations at the assembly plant to keep the line moving the black color was the default when the color was not available with mirrors, shifter handles and belts. The Cougar line was a more luxurious model and possibly had priority over the Mustang.
That is my theory.

My NJ 67 with two tone aqua interior has an aqua mirror.

I've only ever seen black vinyl shifter handles.  Isn't that part of the Sports Sprint package?
